新作故事背景发生在古埃及,故事剧情围绕最初的刺客组织展开,有两名男女主角，剧情不再过于线性，角色升级不再过于受剧情限制，游戏很多方面与《上古卷轴5》类似，自由度更高、更多注重探索元素。地图不仅限于埃及，玩家可以探索埃及之外的区域，甚至可能是希腊。新作中可以驾驶船只，可以在地中海海域进行海战。
